Qi Yang didn’t know what happened to number 18 afterward; he was certain number 18 wouldn’t survive. It seemed that this number 18 in the real world had once killed family members by buying them insurance and then staging accidents to collect the payouts.
He had tried it twice. The first time he actually succeeded, killing his wife’s cousin.
Later he attempted to kill his wife, but failed; his wife ended up in the hospital and the man had no intention of paying her medical bills.
Someone like that making it into this game and still surviving to clear levels—Qi Yang considered that nothing short of a miracle. With a heart so vicious and ruthless, even becoming a ghost and working within the space seemed, to Qi Yang, far too merciful.
People who weren't good people in life, when they become ghosts, are mostly not good ghosts either. Regarding human nature, Qi Yang believed that evil remains evil.
So when he left the villa, Qi Yang turned and looked at the house behind him as the flames spread and said, "Let the house and everything inside it disappear."
"Fine." Nan Sheng had no objections; he was eager for Qi Yang to give him more ideas, and he would fulfill all of them.
Nan Sheng's hand suddenly opened in the air, the fire instantly flaring up, engulfing the entire villa. In the roaring inferno, everything would turn to ashes.
Nan Sheng and Qi Yang left. When they reached the gray mist that had reappeared, Nan Sheng stopped.
"You go back first. I need to take care of something. I'll come find you in the living world soon."
Without asking what it was, Qi Yang walked straight into the mist.
He kept going forward. A faint light appeared ahead; heading toward it, Qi Yang took a step and returned from the game world to the living world.
A leaf suddenly fell from the sky, and Qi Yang reached out to catch it, but the leaf didn't actually land in his hand—instead, it floated unexpectedly in the palm of his hand.
Staring at the leaf, a faint smile came into Qi Yang's eyes; it seemed this barrier had that kind of function too.
Retracting the barrier, the leaf rested in Qi Yang's palm. After examining the leaf's veins for a moment, Qi Yang turned his hand over and the leaf silently drifted back to the ground.
In the previous round of the game he had stayed for nearly half a month, so this time returning to reality also meant a half-month rest.
If he hadn't changed his mind, Qi Yang thought he would have had plenty of time to have a minor operation and remove what was in his belly. But now, Qi Yang had already made up his mind: he was going to give birth to this child. This was his child, a little being unlike any other.
Qi Yang thought Nan Sheng would return to the living world soon, but to his surprise, he didn't see anyone from Nan Sheng during the whole fortnight.
For a moment Qí Yáng even felt a bit worried, wondering if the ghosts might rise up in rebellion again, displeased with Nán Shèng's tyranny. But it was only a brief concern; if something really happened to Nán Shèng, it wouldn't be all bad for him either. In that case, perhaps he could take the game space for himself.
Why not?
Previously Qi Yang didn't find power particularly appealing, but after several rounds of the game, especially with some changes in himself, he suddenly understood those who chase after influence and status.
Power is truly intoxicating; it gradually breeds dissatisfaction and a growing desire for more.
On the last day Nan Sheng came, but he had changed his face — it had become Fu Mingnan's face.
Qi Yang watched this person shift faces in front of him; what remained unchanged, as Qi Yang clearly saw, was that this man, who clearly possessed great power and authority, had become concerned about him, an ordinary human.
No, that's not right — a man capable of becoming pregnant, in a sense, already counted as not ordinary.
When he was examined and found out how he could become pregnant, Qi Yang learned that the structure of his internal organs was not like that of an ordinary male; he had an extra set of female organs.
It was precisely that set of organs that allowed him to become pregnant.
Nan Sheng—also Fu Mingnan—went straight over and hugged Qi Yang as soon as he saw him, carrying him onto the sofa. Fu Mingnan sat down beside Qi Yang and gripped his hand tightly.
Qi Yang’s eyes sparkled when he looked at the man; this person was his most excellent tool, and occasionally giving a little reward wasn’t out of the question.
Qi Yang leaned over and kissed Fu Mingnan.
Fu Mingnan's eyes lit up even more.
"I have something to discuss with you," Qi Yang said.
Fu Mingnan didn't ask what it was and nodded, "Okay."
"So straightforward?" Qi Yang smiled.
"Only you." Only Qi Yang was special.
"Everything I want you to have, then?" Qi Yang asked on purpose.
"Yes." Fu Mingnan didn't hesitate; despite having so much power, he rarely had time to feel true pleasure. In the past century, the moments he felt happy were almost all brought by Qi Yang.
Qi Yang smiled again: "Just kidding, too tired." Fu Mingnan had a lot on his plate; although he wouldn't tell Qi Yang, Qi Yang could guess some of it.
"You only enjoy the power; I'll take care of everything else." Fu Mingnan took Qi Yang's hand and lightly kissed the back of it.
"After the child is born, you'll take him." Qi Yang said suddenly.
"No problem." Fu Mingnan couldn't have been happier; he had his own plan—to hold onto the child and use him to tether Qi Yang's heart.
Their child would surely be an adorable, beautiful, and powerful baby; even if Qi Yang had a cold heart, he would definitely be moved by the baby. Fu Mingnan had long since made his calculations.
Qi Yang smiled and shook his head. Seeing Fu Mingnan like this now, he didn't look like the OSS of some terrifying game-space at all.
Fu Mingnan saw that Qi Yang was in a good mood, leaned in hoping to get a little closer, only to have Qi Yang cover his face with a hand.
"What’s wrong?" Fu Mingnan wondered why Qi Yang had suddenly rejected him.
“I just said I have something to do.”
“Isn't it about the child?” Fu Mingnan thought it was that matter.
“No.”
“Then…” Fu Mingnan didn't know what Qi Yang wanted to tell him.
"I've always been a player; I find running around exhausting, and it's not good for my pregnancy. How about I work for you instead?" Qi Yang tilted his head slightly.
Fu Mingnan disagreed: "No, I won't have you overworked. What if you get tired?"
"Then find me an easy job, something like the former villa owner. If that's considered tiring, then I think your idea of 'tiring' and mine are probably not the same."
Fu Mingnan thought for a moment; it did seem players would be more exhausted. Since Qi Yang had brought it up, refusing would make him look like a weak game boss.
How could he be weak? Absolutely not.
"I'll make a list for you to choose a profession from." Fu Mingnan immediately knew what to do.
Qi Yang kept his eyes down as if lost in thought. After a while he raised his head and looked at Fu Mingnan: "Can I bring a family member?"
"Bring me?" Fu Mingnan thought he meant himself.
Qi Yang smiled at Fu Mingnan: "Not you."
Fu Mingnan frowned, and after a few seconds his tone turned sour: "Du Yong and the others?" His whole face was saying the same thing—he was displeased.
"Someone has to lend me a hand, right? Always ordering you around won't do. You're my child's exclusive nanny, or do you want someone else to take that spot?"
"No—anyone who comes I will have them die," Fu Mingnan said with a smile.
"Not Du Yong and the others, but Yi Xinming. Can you get him transferred here?" Qi Yang quite liked Yi Xinming; having someone like him assist would be very convenient.
Fu Mingnan wanted to refuse, but Qi Yang leaned over and kissed Fu Mingnan's cheek, and in an instant Fu Mingnan had no words of refusal left.
Fu Mingnan and Qi Yang entered the game world together. When they arrived the game hadn't started yet; they went to a café, where Qi Yang took on the role of the owner.
Before Qi Yang arrived, Yi Xinming had been transferred over; when Qi Yang appeared, Yi Xinming for a moment thought he had been seeing things.
Then Qi Yang showed his familiar smile and greeted Yi Xinming; Yi Xinming knew that person was Qi Yang.
They hadn't seen each other for a while, and Qi Yang seemed to have changed quite a bit. Yi Xinming walked over—if it had been before, he might have hugged Qi Yang outright. This time he didn't. From Qi Yang's pupils he sensed a chill, a coldness that wasn't dispelled even by the other's smile.
Qi Yang directly said he had come to serve as the boss. Yi Xinming uttered an
"ah," and Qi Yang repeated himself.
Yi Xinming was surprised: "You died?"
"I didn't die." Qi Yang shook his head.
"Then…" Yi Xinming wanted to ask why, but his voice abruptly cut off, because he saw another person—Fu Mingnan, the game's supervisor.
Qi Yang and Fu Mingnan had come together, and the other players hadn't appeared yet. Yi Xinming wasn't stupid; he could guess what that meant.
Suddenly he had a guess: "I came here because of you… am I right?"
"Yes." Qi Yang nodded.
"Qi Yang, you really…" Yi Xinming shook his head with a smile, but then his gaze suddenly became extremely firm and sincere.
"Knowing you, I truly feel very fortunate."
"I thought you would hate me?" He had deceived Yi Xinming.
"Hate you for what? What would I gain from that? Being friends with you, I believe, is the best choice."
Yi Xinming spoke honestly.
Qi Yang smiled, his brows and eyes charming.
From that day on Qi Yang lived on the second floor of the café, Yi Xinming on the first. Yi made the breakfasts and the like. Compared to many other unrelated spirits, Yi considered himself fortunate, so he had no complaints.
The next day, after finishing breakfast and sitting on the second-floor balcony sofa, Qi Yang saw Yi Xinming come up from downstairs. He told Qi Yang, "They're coming."
Qi Yang looked toward the other end of the street, a smile deepening in his eyes.
These players all liked to come to Qi Yang’s coffee shop to drink coffee. One player, having accidentally seen Qi Yang, thought Qi Yang was an NPC; he'd never seen such a handsome NPC, and as a gay man he could be said to have fallen in love with Qi Yang at first sight.
Then the player began to pursue Qi Yang, and a new line appeared in the game manual: "Any form of pursuing nc is prohibited."
That player took the newly issued manual, flipped through it repeatedly, unwilling to believe it, and went back to Qi Yang's coffee shop.
Then that day countless ghosts and monsters appeared in the coffee shop; they lunged at the player and clawed them all over until they were bloodied.
The player screamed and ran out.
On the second floor, Qi Yang was being held by Fu Mingnan. Qi Yang asked, "Are you that jealous?"
"Only I can pursue you." Fu Mingnan kissed the side of Qi Yang's ear.
"Then you'll have to keep it up." Qi Yang broke free from Fu Mingnan's embrace and walked back to the room.
Fu Mingnan followed behind Qi Yang, a smile of contentment and happiness on his face.
