He was stared at in silence by the group; he froze for a few seconds, then immediately protested: “I’m just worried something will happen if I skip lunch.” It wasn’t that he was hungry and wanted to eat—he was a foodie, but even food lovers worry in dangerous situations.

“You probably don’t need to worry about lunch. If it turns out there’s nothing to eat, I think we can ask the supervisor; he should know where the food is.” Kang Lian thought the organizers wouldn’t withhold food from them, so Yang Jiang didn’t need to worry about that at all.

Yang Jiang gave an awkward smile and decided he’d keep his mouth shut more from now on.

“I’ll go for a walk nearby. You all rest here, okay? Don’t wander too far if you need to leave.” Qi Yang stood and rested for a moment. Letting the injured Yi Xinming walk any further with him would be obviously too much, so he intended to go deeper inside by himself.

Yang Jiang almost wanted to follow to check the bandages still wrapped around Yi Xinming’s face, but he pulled his stepping foot back.

Beside him, Kang Lian watched the man behind Qi Yang. She knew Qi Yang wouldn’t leave alone; Nan Sheng would certainly follow. That man had effectively become Qi Yang’s twenty-four-hour special bodyguard, and he was cold toward those of them gathered around Qi Yang, as if they were about to vanish at any moment.

Kang Lian still decided to stay. She and Yi Xinming and the others would wait here for Qi Yang.

Qi Yang walked to the left, not in the direction Qiao Ran and the others had gone; he mainly wanted to quietly enjoy the scenery and not have extra people around him.

After a few steps someone fell in behind him. Qi Yang didn’t turn back—he knew who it was—and he kept walking.

Qi Yang walked slowly, savoring the clear air in the woods as he went. Because the islet sat in the sea, the breeze on his face carried the scent of the ocean. Suddenly he thought that if this islet belonged to someone who often came here to vacation, that person’s mood would have to be very good.

Nan Sheng, who trailed a few steps behind Qi Yang, saw how much Qi Yang seemed to like the island’s scenery. He considered arranging for players in later games to be relocated to a different islet and leaving this one to Qi Yang alone.

We still need to have someone build a house on the little island, and a playground should be built too, so their children can play there later. As for him and Qi Yang, the two of them can just watch the baby from the side.

There was still some time before the child would be born, but Nan Sheng was growing increasingly impatient. He quietly stared at Qi Yang’s belly. There were no visible signs of pregnancy yet, but it shouldn’t be long before Qi Yang’s stomach started to swell. Qi Yang with a big belly—such a handsome man with a rounded stomach—no

Knowing why, Nan Sheng felt that the scene would certainly be more enticing.

Nan Sheng rubbed his fingertip lightly; at that moment he suddenly really wanted to touch Qi Yang’s pregnant belly.

Qi Yang walked through the woods until he reached a spot with a wide view. There was even a small stream there; the water was clear and transparent, the bright water trickling along. Qi Yang crouched beside the stream and put his hand into the water— the ice-cold flow brought an extremely pleasant sensation to the body.

“The scenery here is nice.” Nan Sheng walked over and watched Qi Yang’s hand, so pretty with its well-defined knuckles, slip into the water. His gaze sharpened gradually; he very much wanted to take that hand and play with it for a while.

Every part of this person seemed meticulously crafted, even each strand of hair that Nan Sheng adored.

Nan Sheng looked forward to the day in the future when Qi Yang would also fall in love with him. He thought that by then he would be willing to give away all the power he held—whoever wanted it could take it. He only wanted to spend his life with Qi Yang and their child.

They stopped by the brook and didn’t go any further. Whether there were better sights ahead or not, Qi Yang had always been good at controlling his desires; to him, the view here was the best. Besides, he hadn’t forgotten about Yi Xinming and the others—if they walked too far, he worried that returning in time might be impossible if something happened. Qi Yang seemed to have forgotten Nan Sheng beside him, forgotten that this man who adored him, even while carrying someone in his arms, walked faster than anyone else.

After sitting for a while, when Qi Yang felt his stomach growl, he stood up and told Nan Sheng he was going back.

Nan Sheng stared directly into Qi Yang’s eyes: “There’s no one here.”

Qi Yang raised an eyebrow, his gaze asking, “And then?”

“You’re tired, I’ll carry you back.” Nan Sheng didn’t want the expectant husband in front of him to walk another step; he wanted to carry Qi Yang all the time, to be Qi Yang’s legs.

Qi Yang smiled and said, “You just want to carry me, don’t you?” Claiming he was tired was just an excuse.

“Yes.” The lie exposed, Nan Sheng didn’t flush; he nodded in acknowledgement.

Qi Yang curled his lips and smiled again. After a few seconds with no movement from Nan Sheng, he reached out his hand.

Nan Sheng hurried over with bright eyes, then scooped Qi Yang up in his arms.

Qi Yang slung an arm over Nan Sheng’s shoulder; this tool-like man seemed to be getting easier for him to use. Qi Yang narrowed his eyes and looked toward the jungle beside them. If this man knew the child in his arms was his, Qi Yang had a feeling the man would get so excited he’d lose his bearings — and, certainly, the man would want the child.

So far, Ke Qiyang still isn’t planning to keep the baby in his belly, so he still won’t let Nan Sheng know that he once..

He once had a chance to become a father.

Nan Sheng didn’t walk fast; he walked slowly. He could still hold Qi Yang, and their child as well. For the first time, Nan Sheng felt that being the game boss didn’t seem very useful. What use was it? It couldn’t help him catch up to Qi Yang immediately; on the contrary, his status was an obstacle.

They didn’t speak; Nan Sheng savored the silence. Just as they were nearly halfway back, a sudden scream came from ahead. The voice sounded vaguely familiar—Qi Yang thought for a moment and realized it seemed to be Yang Jiang’s voice.

“Something happened?” That’s impossible — Yang Jiang wouldn’t scream like that if nothing was wrong; the sound clearly carried fear.

A shadow passed over Nan Sheng’s eyes as he said, “Probably.”

“Then hurry back.” Qi Yang, having accepted Yi Xinming and the others as his friends, didn’t want to return late and find several corpses lying there.

Nan Sheng knew that if those few people really got into trouble, Qi Yang would be badly affected; with him there, he wouldn’t let Qi Yang get hurt, so he carried Qi Yang and headed back.

Time rewound to a little over half an hour earlier. Not long after Qi Yang and Nan Sheng left, Kang Lian also went nearby, not straying far—she could still see Yi Xinming if she turned her head. It was her first time on an island like this. Although she knew this place wasn’t the real world and danger might be close at hand, perhaps because of Qi Yang, who remained extremely calm no matter what happened, Kang Lian herself gradually felt its influence and was no longer as terrified as when she entered the game. As she walked around she checked her surroundings, making sure there was no danger.

After walking a circuit, the surroundings were completely silent except for the rustling of leaves in the wind; those sounds eased the mind and brought a sense of calm to the listener.

Kang Lian turned and glanced back toward Yi Xinming and the others; things over there were normal, nothing amiss at the moment.

Kang Lian didn’t go back for the moment; she walked on for a while. As she walked, she suddenly noticed several pits had inexplicably appeared ahead—irregular holes. Alarmed, she didn’t immediately move forward but stared at the black holes for a while. Minutes passed with no unusual occurrences, and for some reason the pits drew her in. She slowly moved closer, wanting to get a clearer look.

Moving bit by bit, Kang Lian reached the pit. The entrance seemed just large enough for a person to crawl through. She leaned her head in to look; below was a pitch-black void, and she couldn’t make out any details inside.

Kang Lian’s expression changed suddenly as she watched, and she hurriedly turned away from those holes. How could she be so careless? What if there really was something in those holes, and she was alone now—what if she were attacked and There wasn’t even a chance to cry for help.

The more Kang Lian thought about it, the stranger the pits seemed. For such human-sized deep holes to appear on an isolated island at sea, and with the markings around them not looking like they were dug by human hands, that meant these holes were made by something else. And what could those things be? Kang Lian’s heart clenched sharply.

She turned around and headed back, quickening her pace, then broke into a run.

As soon as Kang Lian saw Yi Xinming and Yang Jiang in her line of sight, she let out a big sigh of relief. She slowed her pace and adjusted her breathing so that she wouldn’t rush over and make them think something had really happened to her.

After walking back, Kang Liang told Yi Xinming and the others about the several pits he had just seen; both of them tightened their brows when they heard it.

“What do you think it could be?” Yang Jiang asked, a little frightened.

Kang Lian thought of the water ghosts they had seen on the shore before coming to the island by yacht. Since this game space was a world of monsters, she wondered whether it might be dead bodies buried underground.

Kang Lian voiced her thoughts.

“Corpses? No one would ever come here!” Yang Jiang said, first looking at Yi Xinming and then at Kang Lian; he suddenly realized a possible source for the bodies.

A breeze blew, carrying the scent of seawater, and for some reason Yang Jiang suddenly caught the smell of rot.

His eyes widened, and he tensed up, warily watching the surroundings.

“Don’t be such a jittery bird.” Yi Xinming’s voice was hoarse as he tried to comfort Yang Jiang, but it clearly did little good.

Suddenly an unusual sound came from somewhere, like the snapping of a branch. Cowardly and afraid of ghosts, Yang Jiang immediately let out a cry. He hurriedly turned toward where the sound came from, but beyond the trees there was no sign of any specter.

They were standing in a low area, and just to their left there was a small slope. On the other side of the incline, corpses with rotting bodies were beginning to crawl toward the group.

“Do you smell something foul?” Kang Lian could occasionally detect a pungent stench of rot.

Yang Jiang nodded: “I smell a little.”

“It didn’t seem to be here before, it just suddenly appeared.” Kang Lian belatedly realized that the spot they were standing in was bad—if something approached them from around, they wouldn’t notice it right away.

“Let’s move. We’ll go up there.”

Standing on higher ground gave a wider view; Kang Lian pointed to their left.

Yi Xinming rose slowly. His head spun for a moment; after steadying himself for two seconds, a few people walked toward the small slope on the left, and when they climbed up the little

When they looked toward the other side of the slope, everyone held their breath.

Right in front of them, many rotting corpses were swaying as they moved closer, and not far behind the corpses were one pit after another — it was obvious they had crawled up from beneath the ground.

“W-What’s going on?” Yang Jiang immediately panicked.

“Move to the right!” Yi Xinming shouted.

Kang Lian turned right first, and the moment she did, rotting corpses had somehow started appearing on the open ground to the right as well. Those corpses had only just emerged from the earth; some still had half their bodies stuck in the holes.

If I couldn’t go to the right, I’d go behind me, but the spot I had just passed through also had a corpse crawling out. The corpse’s exposed skin was completely putrid, oozing a foul stench as blood trickled out, the blood having turned a dark, blackish red.

A gust of wind blew, and the air was filled with the stench of rotting corpses.

Ugh! Yang Jiang couldn’t hold back and bent over to vomit, though some time had already passed since morning, so not much came up.

There was only one direction left, and unsurprisingly, there were rotten corpses in that direction too.

“Ahhh! Ahhh!” When the few of them were driven back to circle around a tree, Yang Jiang screamed in terror. His voice did nothing to stop the corpses; if anything, it seemed to quicken their stride.

Yi Xinming picked up two branches from the ground and handed one to Kang Lian, telling her to use the branch to protect herself. It might not do much, but one should resist even before death.

After shouting for a while, Yang Jiang pressed his whole body tightly against the trunk. His eyes were wide and oval, and he kept muttering, “I’m going to die, this time I’m really going to die, why? I haven’t even moved, I don’t want to die, there must be a way, there has to be a way, right, the tree!”

Yang Jiang immediately turned and kept feeling along the tree trunk with both hands, trying to find some kind of mechanism, but all in vain. The surrounding rotting corpses closed in quickly, their foul stench hitting him in the face, and Yang Jiang crouched by the tree and vomited again.

Yi Xinming’s face turned grim. There were too many rotten corpses; with just the three of them—one wounded and one a girl—there was no way they could break through.

Could it really end here today? Yi Xinming refused to believe he’d die so soon; he hadn’t lived enough, there were many things he hadn’t done. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed the tree they were leaning against—one of its branches hung low to the ground. Yi Xinming glanced sideways at that branch, and an idea suddenly formed in his mind.

“Climb the tree!” Yi Xinming grabbed Kang Lian’s wrist and pulled her over. Kang Lian, startled by his touch and thinking it was a rotting corpse, was so frightened she almost..

Pointing, he struck people with a stick.

“Climb up the tree?” Kang Lian paused, surprised.

“Mm, I’ll help you.”

Kang Lian made a bitter face: “I can’t climb trees.”

“It’s nothing, very easy.” Yi Xinming urged Kang Lian to hurry, not to waste time.

Kang Lian stared at the huge tree before her and swallowed hard.

“Come over and help.” Yi Xinming called Yang Jiang over.

The two men lifted Kang Lian up together; she grabbed the trunk herself and, with great difficulty, climbed up.

“Keep climbing!” Yi Xinming shouted from below. Standing on a branch, Kang Lian’s legs went weak and panic overwhelmed her. Her mind battled back and forth, but after a moment’s struggle she obeyed Yi Xinming and climbed higher. She had never climbed a tree before and nearly fell several times.

Below the tree Yi Xinming told Yang Jiang to go up first. Since he’d once saved this man’s life, he didn’t want him to die in front of him now. Yang Jiang’s face was ashen—looking even paler than the injured Yi Xinming—but this time he didn’t do as Yi Xinming instructed.

“Yige, you go up first. I’m fine. My legs are longer than yours; I can climb up right away.” Yang Jiang was actually the same height as Yi Xinming. If he’d said his legs were longer at another time, Yi Xinming might have given him a bonk on the head, but this wasn’t the moment for pushing each other.

“All right.” Yi Xinming didn’t argue with Yang Jiang any further, so as not to waste the already scarce time.

He grabbed a branch, hooked both feet deftly onto it, and below Yang Jiang also supported Yi Xinming with his hands; in a blink Yi Xinming had climbed into the tree.

By the time Yang Jiang tried to climb up, the surrounding corpses had already closed in. Yang Jiang kept swinging the branch that Yi Xinming had used, trying to drive the corpses away, but more and more of them kept surging forward, and the space where Yang Jiang stood grew ever smaller.

He hurriedly turned and started to climb the tree, but before his feet could reach the branch above, the lurching corpse had already grabbed him.

Yang Jiang trembled all over, and cried out in fear once more.

This voice was even louder than before, and it was exactly the sound Qi Yang and the others had heard.

Yixinming in the tree gripped one of Yang Jiang’s hands and begged him not to let go. The corpse had a hold on Yang Jiang’s lower body; his eyes were bloodshot, his gaze red, and his face looked like he was about to cry.

“Yi-ge, I don’t want to die. I haven’t taken a wife yet. I still want to fall in love. I don’t want to die now.” Tears flowed from Yang Jiang’s eyes as he cried out.

Yi Xinming stared at Yang Jiang. In his previous impression, Yang Jiang was always clinging to life and afraid of death; this time, by taking the initiative to let him climb the tree first, Yi Xinming realized this was someone he could trust.

We can be friends.

“You won’t die!” Yi Xinming said quite decisively.

“But I can’t get up, they’re holding me, those monsters are holding me, I can’t get up…” Yang Jiang cried out.

Kang Lian moved down a bit and saw the corpses surrounding the tree trunk. Yang Jiang was being held by the corpses; for a moment she wanted Yixinming to let go so Yixinming wouldn’t be pulled down by Yang Jiang—if that happened, both of them would be in danger. She immediately suppressed that thought.

Kang Lian wanted to go down to help, but Yixinming was standing on a lower branch and if she went any further the weight might make it break. She looked around and noticed a wooden stick in her hand. After a moment’s thought, she threw the stick down, hitting one of the corpses that was grabbing Yixinming’s foot. That corpse loosened its grip slightly. Yixinming, sharp-eyed, noticed this and looked up, telling Kang Lian to pry the branch, break it off and throw it down to hit the corpses.

Kang Lian immediately sprang into action. One by one, broken branches struck the corpses. Even though his foot was being held, Yang Jiang glared fiercely and kept using the branch in his hand to beat the corpses. Some of the corpses’ cheeks were beaten until the flesh tore open; the rotted flesh splattered onto Yang Jiang’s hand and he gagged, then struggled desperately to break free.

Qiyang and Nan Sheng returned in time to see this very scene. Seeing that Yixinming and Kang Lian were unharmed while Yang Jiang was still at the base of the tree—though Qiyang didn’t know exactly what had happened—he felt that Yang Jiang still had qualities worth acknowledging based on the situation.

“This should work.” Qi Yang bent and picked up a stone from the ground. He murmured softly—not to Nan Sheng, but to himself.

Nan Sheng then took the stone from Qi Yang’s hand. Throwing stones, a task requiring physical strength, was still his to do; the expectant husband only needed to stand to the side and watch.

Nan Sheng raised his hand and threw the stone. It was clearly an ordinary rock, but after passing through Nan Sheng’s hand it became like a shot put, smashing straight into a corpse’s head and shattering it.

["post-3230","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
