As for the player who had drawn ball No.3, that player’s expression made it look like if something were going to happen today, it wouldn’t be No.2 but No.3.

After dinner everyone dispersed. Qi Yang took his book and read for a while; time seemed to pass quickly when reading, and in the blink of an eye the world outside the window was pitch black. The whole world was dark, and standing by the window he couldn’t see any light outside at all. Qi Yang recalled how he had given his bead to that ghostly creature earlier in the day, and suddenly thought that if others found out about his obvious cheating, they’d probably hate him even more than the ghost.

He knew so much of the inside story, yet kept it all hidden.

Qi Yang’s lips twitched.

The next day when Qi Yang woke up and opened the door, he saw Nan Sheng leaning against the opposite slanted wall. From the way he was standing, he looked as if he hadn’t slept at all. Qi Yang’s pupils contracted.

“Hey, Qi Ge, you’re awake? Are you okay?” Du Yong inspected Qi Yang’s body up and down.

“I’m fine.” Qi Yang nodded. Seeing only Du Yong there, he asked about the situation at Yuan Yuan’s place.

Du Yong said Yuan Yuan and another girl had gone to the living room; he saw Nan Sheng there too. It felt strange—this man gave Du Yong an odd impression, as if he were completely insulated from the surrounding dangers. The feeling was different from what Qi Yang had given him.

Du Yong told Qi Yang he was going to check No. 2; he hadn’t seen anyone in the living room. Other players had the same idea—everyone wanted to see whether anything had happened to No. 2 yesterday.

Qi Yang nodded slightly and didn’t stop Du Yong. He wasn’t entirely without suspicion either: after No. 2 took the bead from No. 14, might something have started to happen?

Du Yong turned and left. Qi Yang walked up to Nan Sheng and suddenly said to him, “My bead is missing.”

Nan Sheng stared at Qi Yang; to him it seemed Qi Yang was testing something.

“Where did you lose it?” Nan Sheng asked.

“I forgot, maybe it wasn’t lost at all, maybe someone took it.” He’d taken it when I wasn’t paying attention.

Nan Sheng could guess the subtext behind Qi Yang’s words.

Nan Sheng’s mouth twitched. What made Qi Yang open his eyes a little wider was that Nan Sheng didn’t say he would help him look for a bead; instead he reached over, took a bead from him — it was the No. 1 bead that a dead player had picked up yesterday.

“Number 1’s?” Qi Yang took the bead into his hand; it still had a bit of blood on it.

Qi Yang flipped it back to Nan Sheng. Nan Sheng thought Qi Yang was discarding it, but Qi Yang said, “It’s got some blood—wipe it clean before you give it back to me.”

”

A faint smile surfaced deep in Nan Sheng’s heavy pupils.

Just as they stepped into the blood-stained area, Nan Sheng handed the bead back to Qi Yang. Qi Yang placed the No. 1 bead on himself, then followed Nan Sheng downstairs. At the foot of the stairs they met No. 2, Du Yong, and some other players. The other players’ faces showed obvious delight; the fact that No. 2 had survived and was unharmed seemed to instantly erase much of the fear they’d felt yesterday.

Number 2 saw Qi Yang approaching, raised his eyebrows and smiled to greet him, then he gave a slight shake of his head. Qi Yang understood what he meant — he wanted Qi Yang to keep something confidential for him.

If Player Two hadn’t reminded Qi Yang, he wouldn’t have said anything. Apart from his emotions becoming colder and more indifferent than before, a few days earlier Qi Yang had overheard some players talking. He knew that not many people here were truly innocent; especially certain individuals—although they hadn’t directly killed anyone, their personalities were vicious and malignant. Their behavior seemed to restrain itself inside the game, but that was only because they picked on the weak and feared the strong, knowing there were terrible ghosts here.

They changed locations, and then they bullied others. Qi Yang had no sympathy at all for people like that.

A few of them went downstairs together. Du Yong had intended to go talk to Qi Yang, but looking at the man beside Qi Yang—cold-eyed and icy—if he got too close, the man’s indifferent gaze would sweep over him.

So Du Yong didn’t go over to Qi Yang’s place.

Arriving at the first-floor hall, it seemed like all the players were there; those who were alive yesterday were still fine today.

Qi Yang’s gaze swept around the room, and when it passed by No. 3, something felt off—there was a strange, uncanny sensation about him. Qi Yang stared for a moment, and just as he was about to look away, No. 3—who had been sitting with his head bowed and motionless—suddenly had his shoulders twitch and emitted a low, eerie moan.

“I said, what are you doing? Laughing like a crazy person so early in the morning—hey, stop laughing!” One of the players standing close to No.3 heard the hair-raising “hehehe” coming from No.3’s mouth and reached out to shove him.

With that shove, No. 3 suddenly jerked his head up. The player, seeing the white powder that had somehow smeared across No. 3’s face and the bluish-purple, stiffened skin, let out a startled cry.

“What… what’s wrong with you?” The player screamed, then immediately jumped up and backed away as if fleeing.

“Look at Player 3! It’s like he’s possessed!”

The players shouted.

In the living room everyone turned to look at Player 3, and at the sight they all drew a sharp, collective gasp.

Seeing everyone’s gazes all focused on him, No. 3 swayed and stood up stiffly. He walked toward the nearest player, looking as if he were..

His body stiffened, but his speed was unnaturally fast; the player was so terrified he forgot to react and simply stood frozen in place.

Heh heh heh, the voice coming from No. 3 was terrifying.

“What is he doing?” A player seemed not to have figured out the situation yet.

“Ahhh, get away from me!” The player whose neck had already been seized by No. 3’s icy, bone-deep hand finally reacted, crying out in alarm as both hands shoved at No. 3.

After pushing No. 3 away, the player scrambled in fear behind the sofa, the chill along his neck crawling through his body. When he leapt behind the couch his feet twisted, nearly making him fall.

“He is—he…” Yuan Yuan, standing farther away and with a keen sense for danger, had already grabbed the other girls and moved toward Qi Yang, hiding beside him; it seemed the terror had lessened considerably the moment she was near him.

Yuan Yuan took two deep, harsh breaths, utterly baffled by what was happening before her.

Meanwhile, the player holding Ball No. 3 failed to catch anyone. He didn’t stop; instead, he kept walking forward. One player, seeing No. 3 approach, grabbed the glass ashtray from the coffee table and warned him, “Don’t come any closer—if you do, I won’t hold back.”

Number Three heard it. His mouth split open, the corners seeming to stretch to his ears, and his chuckle changed tone—sharper and more terrifying.

Number 3 lunged forward; a player grabbed an ashtray and smashed it directly onto his head. Number 3 staggered, and a blackish-red blood welled from his forehead—not a dark red, but black-red. It looked eerily sinister.

Number 3 straightened up, blood streaming down his forehead and quickly blurring his face. The player holding the ashtray saw that Number 3 seemed unbothered by the blow; after being struck his eyes shone even more brightly, and the way he stared at the player was like a predator watching its prey.

The player was frightened and hurriedly ran elsewhere.

The other players, seeing Number 3 bleeding yet not collapsing — in fact seeming even more terrifying — didn’t know what had happened, but they knew running now was surely the right choice.

In an instant the players who had just been confused scattered. Some ran toward the stairs, trying to hide back in their rooms. Unexpectedly, Number 3 suddenly charged forward, leaping over obstacles. Qi Yang didn’t move, standing in place watching. Nan Sheng walked up to Qi Yang and positioned himself in front, shielding Qi Yang behind him.

“Don’t be afraid, I’m here.” Nan Sheng said gently. When he turned his head to look at Number 3, his pupils suddenly went cold — he regarded the person as nothing more than a corpse.

“This… what’s wrong with him?” Yuan Yuan’s eyes widened; she couldn’t be sure what was happening now.

Du Yong also arrived as quickly as he could,

after all he was familiar with Qi Yang and the others, so he was surely with Qi Yang and the rest.

“I guess it might be just as that person said a moment ago.” Du Yong said softly.

“He’s possessed?” Yuan Yuan’s round eyes flickered with fear. “What do we do now, where can we hide?” Their position was poor; even the nearest corridor was some distance away, and behind them was the main door — but someone had already tried to leave and fallen straight into the blood-filled pit outside. Running out was definitely not an option.

Yuan Yuan’s hands and feet began to grow cold. She scanned around for anything handy to use as a weapon and only saw a vase—nothing better.

Earlier someone had smashed an ashtray over the crazed player and instead only provoked him. Yuan Yuan hesitated about grabbing the vase. A girl with her, who had the No.7 bead in her pocket, saw the vase too and figured something was better than nothing, so she darted forward and grabbed it. Seeing the other girl take one, Yuan Yuan went over and grabbed one as well.

The fleeing players drew No.3’s attention as they ran; some of them screamed while running, practically turning themselves into living targets. Qi Yang watched coldly from the sidelines and did not help.

If he acted now, there was no guarantee these people wouldn’t morally blackmail him — and that was the thing Qi Yang hated most.

Du Yong was also looking for something. He saw the vase but didn’t pick it up; instead he headed for the kitchen. Knives and the like, in Du Yong’s view, might be much better than an ashtray or a vase.

By now Du Yong could basically confirm that the player who had gone mad was no longer human. That bluish, ghastly face looked as if it had been dead for a very long time, and the eyes were completely not those of a living person.

Du Yong quietly said to Qi Yang, “Qi-ge, I want to go to the kitchen and get a knife.” He looked at Qi Yang — in Du Yong’s eyes, Qi Yang was several times smarter than him.

Qi Yang glanced back at Du Yong but didn’t speak immediately. He then stared at the player with the dead-white face; the skin on his hands matched his face. It was almost identical to the ghostly figure Qi Yang had encountered by the window yesterday. This person could still move now, but for the most part he was already dead.

“Can you handle it?” Qi Yang asked.

Du Yong thought Qi Yang was asking him and hurriedly shook his head like a rattle: “He looks very strong. If I go up against him like this, he’ll definitely be the one to kill me first.”

Qi Yang’s mouth curved slightly into a faint smile: “I wasn’t asking you.”

Nan Sheng turned his head and met Qi Yang’s gaze; the eyes that had just been icy softened in an instant.

“Yes.”

Nan Sheng nodded.

“Then I’ll trouble you.” Qi Yang said, and added, “Do it discreetly, don’t let others see.”

Nan Sheng understood Qi Yang’s meaning with little thought, and of course he complied: “Alright, don’t worry.”

Qi Yang then replied to Du Yong: “Don’t go to the kitchen.”

Du Yong’s gaze moved back and forth between Qi Yang and Nan Sheng; meeting Qi Yang’s eyes, which showed little fluctuation, he gave a short “hmm.”

Number 3 lunged toward the stairs, flipped up onto them, and leapt ahead to the front runner. He spun around and gripped the player’s throat. The player panicked, struggling wildly, trying to push Number 3 away, but Number 3 didn’t budge; his fingers tightened quickly. The player turned and begged the people behind him for help, while the nearby players who were being stared at by him were all terrified by the sudden, horrifying scene.

Don’t talk about saving the player — she spun around and ran straight down the stairs.

A painful sound came from the player’s mouth, and that sound gradually faded.

["post-3334","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
