Having someone follow me around every day, and even though that person takes good care of me, I don’t think I’m fortunate enough to accept that kind of care.”

“Need my help?” The Snow Ghost was, of course, a clever spirit; in an instant it understood what was really being implied.

“You help me, I help you, mutual aid. I’m not the type to accept favors for nothing.” Qi Yang wasn’t going to believe a nonhuman creature was genuinely that kind.

It was far more likely the other party wanted to use him. Perfect—Qi Yang intended to use them too. It was just a question of whose goal would be achieved first.

“All right, I’ll come by again tomorrow night.” Some other ghosts quietly came over to inform the Snow Ghost that Nan Sheng had gone to a place—something there couldn’t yet be allowed to be discovered by Nan Sheng. After bidding the Snow Ghost farewell, Qi Yang hurried off.

Watching the snow ghost suddenly vanish, they probably didn’t know that Qi Yang had long since sensed the presence of the other spirit; this ability to perceive had suddenly appeared after entering this snowy space.

Qi Yang considered several possibilities, but in the end he believed it was that one.

If that truly was an overwhelmingly powerful being, it wouldn’t be impossible for him to change his original mind.

Qi Yang left the restroom and returned to the garden. The ghostly servant behind the security camera hadn’t detected anything unusual about him, so naturally it had no idea that Qi Yang had just met the snow ghost

of it.

Nan Sheng had been gone for two or three hours. When he came back, he went straight to the upstairs garden and saw Qi Yang leaning on a lounger with his eyes closed, asleep. Nan Sheng walked over and scooped him up horizontally.

Qi Yang opened his eyes and woke, and when he saw who was holding him he said, “You’re back?”

It sounded like something murmured half-asleep; Nan Sheng’s dark eyes showed a strange flicker.

“This isn’t comfortable—let’s go sleep in the room.” Saying that, Nan Sheng turned and carried Qi Yang back to the bedroom.

He tucked the blanket over him. Nan Sheng stood by Qi Yang’s bed, his eyes lowered, the way he looked at Qi Yang’s pale face sincere and full of feeling.

“What you want to know, what you doubt, I’ll tell you everything after we clear this game—everything.” Nan Sheng said to Qi Yang.

Qi Yang’s mouth lifted slightly. “Actually, I’m not that curious either.”

Nan Sheng thought Qi Yang was saying that because of his deception, so he deliberately leaned in, brushed the hair back from Qi Yang’s forehead, lowered his head and lightly kissed Qi Yang’s forehead.

“By then you can do whatever you want, even beat me up if you want, that’s fine.” As a ghostly being, Nan Sheng didn’t feel pain; saying this would placate others.

It didn’t work on Qi Yang.

“I’m going to sleep.” Qi Yang looked at Nan Sheng and smiled. Nan Sheng wanted to kiss Qi Yang again, but worried Qi Yang might be unhappy—pregnant husbands need to keep good moods—so he lowered himself completely, said a brief okay, and left.

Qi Yang had only slept a little while, and actually didn’t feel very sleepy.

After Nan Sheng left, he got up, walked to the window, and gently pushed it open. Snow driven by the cold wind blew in and clung to Qi Yang’s body. The room had heating; he wasn’t wearing much, his long neck fully exposed, yet he didn’t feel cold.

Qi Yang stared out at the white world and thought that in this game space, perhaps the house called Freedom wasn’t what it seemed. As he pondered, his eyes drooped slightly, and with that small lowering his pupils tightened.

Right outside his window, there was a snow-covered monster crouched there at some unknown time. Its limbs were twisted in strange poses, climbing the wall like a gecko.

The creature didn’t seem to realize Qi Yang had noticed it yet. The wind and snow outside were fierce, howling, so it hadn’t heard the window open. Under Qi Yang’s gaze it slowly climbed upward, and when it neared the top it lifted its head. Then it and Qi Yang met eyes.

The monster’s face was blue-black, mottled with livor mortis; it looked as if a casual scrape would flake off that thin layer of human skin covering its face.

The ghoul suddenly widened its eyes and stared at Qi Yang; of course he knew who lived in that window

Who was he? He had only come here to go through the motions, to finish the task—he’d even planned to crawl up to this spot and then head back. He intended to turn around and follow him out. Who knew something like this would happen: Qi Yang was actually standing by the window like that, staring straight at him.

Want to laugh?

This human was someone they had been explicitly instructed not to harm in the slightest—not even to frighten casually. The ghost strained to pull at its mouth, trying to smile at Qi Yang, but it seemed unaware of how its face looked. What had been a merely creepy dead face suddenly, when forced into a smile, became terrifying and grotesque in an instant.

The Snow Ghost belatedly realized the situation, and in that moment felt a surge of tears ready to fall.

But he was no longer human; he had no tears, only the ability to make a pained expression.

Qi Yang saw the ghostly creature so startled by him that it looked ready to cry; the whole scene struck him as theatrical. He let out a short, amused laugh.

“If you want to leave, then leave. It must be tough for you to come out and scare people in this freezing snow.” Qi Yang didn’t feel much emotional stir toward the other humans; instead, he found himself oddly pitying these ghosts.

“By the way, do you all live in the snow as well?”

Qi Yang was a little curious about that.

The specter froze for a long moment, even blinking; that blink on his face only made him more terrifying.

The apparition hurriedly nodded, a flicker of fear glinting in his eyes.

“Your superiors aren’t very capable, are they? This is your world—by rights, you should have your ghostly authority here.”

No one had ever spoken to a ghost like that. He no longer knew how long he’d been here; he didn’t even feel he retained memories from his life as a human. He couldn’t even speak—he had become a machine that simply carried out orders. And now some player shows up and tells him he should have “ghost rights.” Could that really be possible?

The ghost widened its eyes. Although it looked like an adult man and was noticeably more robust in build than Qi Yang, for some reason Qi Yang had the strange feeling that the other was a child.

“Do you want to?” Qi Yang asked, wearing a gentle smile.

His face in the heavy snow seemed to glow on its own, and the ghost slowly nodded.

“I’ll help you.” After saying that, Qi Yang gave his digital glass bead to the ghost.

The ghost looked quite surprised when it received the bead and hesitated to take it, but Qi Yang simply tossed it into the snow. The ghost turned, leapt down, and without caring about its snapped limbs, crawled across the snow with its mangled arms and legs, searching for Qi Yang’s bead.

Upstairs, Qi Yang closed the window. He gently placed his hand on his abdomen and murmured softly, “Maybe they count as your half of the same kind, then…”

For most of that day Qi Yang stayed apart from the crowd. The others, worried something might happen to them, mostly grouped together, so Qi Yang had no need to worry any ghost or monster would dare harm him.

That evening he went downstairs and saw No. 2 sitting in the lobby playing cards with people, looking as if the danger had nothing to do with him.

Qi Yang glanced at the people playing cards; most of them had numbers after 10. It seemed these folks believed that as long as they carried their beads, it wouldn’t be their turn that day, so after a period of tension they had relaxed again.

Du Yong and Yuan Yuan were there too, but they weren’t sitting with the card players.

When Du Yong saw Qi Yang come downstairs, he asked if Qi Yang had been sleeping so long because something was wrong with his health.

Qi Yang nodded. “There’s something growing in my stomach. I’ve been hesitating about whether to have surgery to remove it.”

Du Yong’s face immediately changed: “Why haven’t you ever mentioned this before?”

“A small thing, it doesn’t affect my body much. It’s something a surgery can fix; it just makes me a bit sleepy sometimes,” Qi Yang explained.

Du Yong wouldn’t know that “small thing” meant a child; he naturally assumed it was some benign tumor. If it were malignant, Qi Yang probably wouldn’t be so calm.

“As long as it can be removed, that’s good. But with the current situation, returning to the living world in terms of time…” Du Yong frowned.

“This time the duration is estimated to exceed half a month, corresponding to the same time in the living world.” Qi Yang felt an inexplicable gaze from behind, recognized who it came from, and slightly curled his lips.

“Then this time you’ll go out and retrieve it? I’ll go to your hospital to take care of you!” Du Yong immediately volunteered.

Qi Yang didn’t give a clear reply, only saying, “Survive and clear the level first.”

["post-3332","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
