Besides, there was Nan Sheng, the ghost disguised as a person, here. While Nan Sheng was asking if Qi Yang was alright, Qi Yang pretended not to hear and turned his head to call Yuan Yuan over.

Yuan Yuan was still trembling, but when she saw Nan Sheng and Du Yong had returned, having those two there made survival seem much more likely. She ran over.

They left the gym together. Qi Yang didn’t say much, though his expression wasn’t despondent. He had a lot on his mind. Nan Sheng knew Qi Yang had discovered something and was suspicious of him; he planned to find a suitable opportunity to confess everything to Qi Yang.

That opportunity still hadn’t come up.

Yuan Yuan didn’t know exactly what had happened between Qi Yang and Nan Sheng, but judging by the atmosphere between them, she consciously avoided disturbing the two.

After Du Yong and the others left, Yuan Yuan asked where they’d gone. Du Yong was silent for a moment, then chose his words carefully and said, “Someone died.” He didn’t say how exactly. When he returned to the outside of the gym and saw the countless snowballs on the ground, Du Yong knew that if he kept silent, Yuan Yuan would probably be able to guess part of the situation.

Snowballs suddenly got thrown in through the windows. Almost every room in the villa had windows; except for the basement, which had no windows but did have ventilation.

Yuan Yuan’s round eyes flickered. She swallowed hard, and after a long moment finally spoke slowly, “Was it hit by a snowball?”

Du Yong frowned and slowly nodded.

“Th-then… if we walk like this now, walking by the windows, won’t they still throw snowballs in?” Just then they came to a corridor; one side of the corridor was a wall, the other entirely glass windows. Looking out through the windows all they could see was a vast white snowfall. If some ghost were hiding out there, the snow falling on them would make it impossible to see from inside.

Yuan Yuan’s whole body was taut, her fingers trembling slightly.

“We just discussed it with Brother Nan; this crisis should be over for the time being.” Du Yong wasn’t completely certain either, but on their way back they passed by a window—both of them were obvious targets—yet they hadn’t been attacked.

“Really?” Yuan Yuan’s tightened nerves couldn’t relax.

“It should be.” Du Yong nodded seriously this time.

Qi Yang still didn’t say anything. He simply walked to the corridor window, turned his head, and looked outside. Whether it was his imagination or not, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this outing..

The scene was a bit different from the previous two.

If it really turned out to be different, that was fine—Qi Yang was quite confident in himself. It wasn’t just because of Nan Sheng; there was something else too: he felt that this game space seemed very friendly to him. As the game progressed, Qi Yang found it even more interesting than the real world.

The real world is bound by too many rules and frameworks; it’s not like here. Although there are game rules, those rules don’t seem to affect Qi Yang. The sensation of being outside the rules inexplicably made him feel quite good.

The other survivors all gathered in the villa’s living room one after another. Judging by the reduced number of people, it seemed like two or three were missing.

The rest looked different from before. Suddenly, a player was killed—smashed to death by a snowball—which finally made many people who had let their guard down realize where they were.

Qi Yang and the others were among the last to arrive. Some glanced up at them, others kept their heads bowed, fingers nervously twisting — their whole posture suggesting they hadn’t yet recovered from the earlier attack.

Silence spread, heavy and dead. After a long while someone spoke: “Three people were attacked this time. According to the prior rules of the game, I think there’s definitely a reason behind this.”

“There basically weren’t any indiscriminate death attacks; they must have broken some rule.”

“Yes, I think so too.” As soon as the man spoke, someone immediately agreed.

“I had all the windows in my room closed at the time, and the monsters outside were far away. Unless they had X-ray vision, they shouldn’t have been able to see exactly where anyone was standing.”

“The snowballs they threw were that accurate—they hit the back of my friend’s head directly,” one player reported what he had seen.

“Maybe they really have x-ray vision?” another player spoke up.

“If they really did, I was actually closer to the window—if they were going to hit someone first, it should’ve hit me,” the other player’s words were immediately shot down.

While these players were debating whether there was a pattern to the deaths, Qi Yang slipped his hand into his pocket, took out his glass digit orb, and lowered his gaze to the black number on it. A subtle change passed through his eyes.

Nan Sheng sat beside Qi Yang. He didn’t pay much attention to what the others were discussing; his gaze lingered mostly on Qi Yang. Seeing Qi Yang take out the glass bead and keep staring at the numbers on it, Nan Sheng realized that Qi Yang had probably already discovered that death rule.

Qi Yang noticed it, but he chose to remain silent, letting these people continue to gossip here. Their indifferent disregard for his life and death made the corner of Nan Sheng’s mouth lift slightly

Laughter.

Everyone chatted away, each adding their two cents. Du Yong and Yuan Yuan didn’t say much, but they didn’t stop thinking either. In fact, when Yuan Yuan saw Qi Yang take out his glass bead, she promptly took out hers as well.

She felt last night when she received the bead that the numbers on it must mean something, and sure enough someone had an accident today.

Could it have something to do with this bead?

While Yuan Yuan was thinking this, another player had already noticed the same issue; he took out his glass bead, which bore the number 6.

“Could it be that the people who die are arranged according to these numbers?” the player asked, holding his bead.

The moment he finished speaking, the player—whose friend had his skull smashed open and died on the spot—immediately denied that speculation.

“Impossible. My friend’s number is 14. By your logic, it couldn’t have been his turn.”

“Which numbers were the other two who died?” someone asked, stroking his chin and thinking for a moment.

“Besides 14, there were numbers 1 and 5.” another player answered. He had gone over to check the three people who’d been killed by the snowballs and had confirmed their numbers. At the time he also thought it followed numerical order, but apart from number 1, the other two showed no obvious pattern.

“So they’re not arranged by sequence after all?”

I had thought I’d found the pattern, but now we were back to square one.

Just as everyone was at a loss, Yuan Yuan’s voice drifted softly out: “Could it be possible that the other two didn’t keep the beads on their person?”

“I think I have a faint recollection—this morning it seemed like they were the only two who didn’t carry their beads with them; they left them in the room.”

“Let me think—yes, just as you said, they didn’t bring their beads.” Another player immediately chimed in; he hadn’t intended to pocket his beads that morning either, but just before leaving he went back and grabbed them.

“Is that really so?” Someone clearly didn’t believe it, preferring to think it was another rule.

“If No. 14 and No. 5 died because they didn’t have beads, then today is No. 1—does that mean tomorrow will be No. 2?” The player’s words finished as his gaze instantly fell on the person holding the No. 2 bead.

Others followed with their gazes. Player No.2 had cleared the game multiple times and wasn’t afraid of such a minor mishap, even if tomorrow might actually be his turn.

“If we really go by the numbers, then tomorrow is indeed my turn.” Number 2 said casually, without a hint of the crisis or urgency that comes with life entering a countdown.

“What should we do? The day after tomorrow it’s me?” she blurted out in a panic.

The person was No. 3. He looked at everyone, hoping someone might come up with a good solution—he didn’t want to die at all.

“Since the ghosts are throwing snowballs in from the outside, and so far no one has stepped into the villa, maybe they simply can’t get in.”

“In that case, when it’s your turn just spend the day in a room without windows.” a player suggested. To him this little problem posed no real threat; he’d beaten games far tougher than this, and this was child’s play.

“Right, there’s a basement here, the basement has no windows, so we can hide down there.” No. 3 immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

“Bring food and water down to the basement in advance when you go down, stay inside for 24 hours, and come out after it’s over.” Everyone offered their suggestions.

Could it really be that simple? That thought flashed through Yuan Yuan’s mind. She turned to Du Yong and told him one of her ideas.

“What if the spirits can get into the house?”

Du Yong shook his head. “I don’t know either, but if they could really come in at will, then none of the players here would be able to survive. I don’t think that’s possible — there’d have to be someone left alive.”

Saying the last sentence, Du Yong instinctively glanced over at Qi Yang. Qi Yang had hardly said anything the whole time, as if whatever everyone was worried about had nothing to do with him.

Du Yong stared at Qi Yang’s face; perhaps he was looking too directly, because Qi Yang turned his head and met his gaze with a calm look.

Under Qi Yang’s light brown eyes, Du Yong felt as if the other person was right in front of him, yet they seemed like strangers — at least not friends.

“Qi-ge, what do you think?” Du Yong pressed down those strange feelings in his chest and asked Qi Yang’s opinion.

Qi Yang said nothing, but he had been listening to what everyone was discussing.

“Staying hidden in the basement the whole time—maybe that’s exactly what they’re hoping for.” Qi Yang didn’t spell out who “they” were; he didn’t have to for Du Yong to understand.

“They can just come in whenever they want?” That would mean nowhere is safe to hide.

Qi Yang shook his head slightly; the attack that had just occurred had offered him too little information, and he wasn’t very sure what would happen next.

The few people spoke in low voices so others wouldn’t overhear.

After what had just happened, many were exhausted. Some bolder ones simply returned to their rooms to rest—after all, someone had already died, so probably nothing else would happen for the rest of the day.

Some of the more timid ones went straight to the basement and hid there; two or three stayed in the living room, sitting on the sofa—after all, the space was bigger, so if anything happened

it would happen right away, and they could run more easily.

During the day and at night it was actually much the same: heavy snow falling outside, dim light inside, everyone had to keep the lights on.

Qi Yang and the others were also in the living room and hadn’t gone upstairs. At lunchtime everyone ate together in the dining room; most people remained silent. After the meal things went on as before: those who were going to the basement went to the basement, and the rest stayed in the living room.

Since becoming pregnant Qi Yang had gotten into the habit of taking an afternoon nap; he went upstairs to his room to sleep.

Not long after he fell asleep there was a sudden sound in the room. Qi Yang snapped awake, sat up, and saw on the floor beneath the window a small snowball, much smaller than the one that had attacked them before.

The snowball was wrapped in paper. Qi Yang walked over, picked it up, and peeled the paper off.

A line was written on the paper: “I know everything about the person beside you.”

Qi Yang stared for a few seconds, then turned toward the bathroom, tore the paper into pieces, tossed them into the toilet, and flushed until it was completely gone.

["post-3719","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
