Qi Yang had vanished—gone right under his nose.

Du Yong was panic-stricken, utterly out of control; he even feared something had happened to Qi Yang. But Qi Yang’s turn in the sequence was far down the list, so even if things were postponed he wouldn’t have been reached yet.

So where exactly had Qi Yang gone?

The players cannot leave this villa; the moment they step outside, the snow collapses and they fall into the bone-chilling cold.

Du Yong didn’t know what to do. He looked at Nan Sheng—this man always gave off an air of excessive calm—and now Du Yong hoped Nan Sheng could suggest a way to find Qi Yang.

But contrary to what Du Yong imagined, Nan Sheng didn’t speak. Instead, he walked straight to the window, and then something happened that made Du Yong’s eyes widen in astonishment.

Right beside the window, a biting, icy gust blew through. When the wind ceased, Nan Sheng, who had been standing there, was gone.

Du Yong thought his eyes were playing tricks on him and rubbed them hard; Nan Sheng was gone.

Du Yong hurriedly turned to look at the others. At this moment it wasn’t just Yuan Yuan and the others who had come over; some other players who had been searching the villa for Qi Yang were also puzzled—how could Qi Yang vanish, when he had seemed so calm and collected.

When Du Yong looked back, everyone’s expressions were the same, and he realized that it hadn’t been his imagination: Nan Sheng had indeed suddenly disappeared.

Humans don’t have that kind of ability; only one kind of person can vanish like that.

Monsters not worthy of being called human.

What the players thought was of no concern to Nan Sheng; letting them discover his identity was completely irrelevant to him. He had only one thought now: he had to find Qi Yang as soon as possible.

Qi Yang wasn’t a monster, and in this freezing ice and snow, Nan Sheng was afraid Qi Yang would be cold.

Suddenly Nan Sheng felt a bit of regret. If he’d known, he should have been harsher back then—just made Qi Yang the same as him.

He had always relied on his power to dominate both ghosts and humans, but with Qi Yang, perhaps because of the other’s uniqueness, he no longer seemed like his old self.

It was his indecision that led to Qi Yang’s disappearance; if he had turned Qi Yang into a ghost sooner, perhaps they would now be in a different kind of relationship.

Nan Sheng always believed that whether human or spirit, especially male beings as a group, they are born with a desire to conquer and to control, and Qi Yang was no exception.

From Qi Yang’s initiative yesterday, Nan Sheng could see clearly that Qi Yang’s gaze held a powerful possessiveness.

If it had happened earlier, he thought the authority he granted Qi Yang would have been enough to tempt him.

He really thought himself clever, yet on this matter he took a tumble.

Nan Sheng continued forward through the snow, moving at such speed his figure was invisible, only a whirlwind of flying snowflakes remained.

Qi Yang didn’t know what was happening outside. The little hut was quite warm, food and drink were plentiful, and it was peaceful and quiet. When he had nothing to do he read; sometimes he would step outside the hut for a walk, but never far—everything was covered in snow, and it seemed to make no difference which direction he took.

In a spot where the snow was deep, Qi Yang built a snowman; since he had nothing better to do, he made his own occupation. No other place had snow as deep as here.

Qi Yang slowly shaped the snowman. At first he built just one, casually; as he worked, though, he felt he might as well make another.

So Qi Yang built two snowmen, one big and one small.

The little snow person has no gender; Qi Yang still doesn’t know whether the small thing in his belly is male or female.

The two snow people held hands tightly; changes of thought happen quickly. Before, Qi Yang intended to terminate the pregnancy, but now, because of this child’s special nature, Qi Yang has gained some abilities ordinary people don’t have. Those abilities moved him—people are always drawn by temptation. Few can steadfastly remain true to their original hearts.

He had changed his mind, abandoned his original intent; this was Qi Yang’s choice, and he would have no regrets.

The snowman they had built stood by as Qi Yang walked through the snow, moving slowly. Snow landed on his clothes and hair. He wasn’t dressed warmly; the cold wind lashed at his face, and his complexion was paler than when he first entered the game—that kind of cold, icy whiteness.

After circling around, he had been out longer than expected; Qi Yang felt a bit weary and sleepy, and he turned to head back.

The footprints from earlier were now buried by the snow. Qi Yang stared at the distant cottage and for a moment felt as if he were dreaming; there was a sense of unreality before his eyes.

Qi Yang gave a silent chuckle and brushed the snow off his eyelashes. He slowly walked back to the wooden cabin, shook the snow from his clothes and hair. He didn’t go to bed. Instead he took a blanket and covered himself, sleeping on the armchair.

After some time — not very long — Qi Yang heard an unusual sound outside: a rumbling. It wasn’t loud, but it couldn’t be ignored.

Qi Yang rose and went to the window, opened it, and looked out into the distance. As far as he could see, nothing strange was happening.

But in the next moment an avalanche appeared on a nearby peak: the snow cracked away from the summit and collapsed, tumbling down. The snowy mountain wasn’t far from the cabin, so Qi Yang felt a slight tremor in the ground when the avalanche occurred.

Estimating the distance between them, Qi Yang thought the entire mountain would have to collapse for the avalanche to reach here.

Qi Yang wasn’t too worried about that. Back inside the house, his sleepiness had mostly vanished, so he picked up a book to read.

It happened that the book contained a minor character’s short story. The tale told of a supporting character who had a lover, but the lover did not truly care for him. Compared to him, the lover preferred power and status, and so colluded with outsiders to engineer a trap for the supporting character. Blinded by love, the character had several chances to notice something amiss, but obsessed only with the lover’s safety, he rushed headlong into the trap.

Later, the supporting character met an untimely death, while his lover successfully obtained everything she wanted.

Qi Yang thought of himself after reading it, but the lover of the supporting character in his book was different — he never intended for Nan Sheng to die, and besides, that person wasn’t that easy to kill.

He was just looking for something to do out of boredom, so Qi Yang kept looking further back.

Avalanches sounded from time to time outside the window; Qi Yang didn’t pay them much mind—if they collapsed onto the house, he’d deal with it then. He didn’t know why, but he had absolute confidence in himself; nothing would happen to him.

The avalanche continued. To Qi Yang it was nothing more than an avalanche; he had no idea what was happening inside the mountain. A boss-level ghost that was searching for him had assumed Qi Yang was somewhere deep within that snowy peak. The clues pointed toward the depths, so the boss decided to level the mountain.

While destroying the mountain, Nan Sheng searched for and sensed Qi Yang’s presence.

No, nothing at all — it feels like this place is just a trap.

Whether it was a trap or not, as long as there was a glimmer of hope, Nan Sheng would not let go.

The entire mountain collapsed, the sound growing from distant to near, the ground trembling even more violently. Qi Yang put the book down but still walked out without much panic.

More snow splashed onto him, but Qi Yang stood still as the snow suddenly halted about half a meter in front of him. Even the snowflakes falling from the sky could not land on Qi Yang at all. His gaze was calm as he watched the astonishing avalanche before him.

Huge slabs of snow rushed past Qi Yang’s sides and over his head at high speed; the formidable barrier he had raised around himself prevented any external object from coming near his body.

The avalanche was fierce; the accumulated snow instantly buried the spot where Qi Yang stood. The small hut behind him was swallowed by the drifts as well, leaving only a flat expanse of ground.

Snow fell in a flurry across the plain, and a figure darted swiftly through it. The figure’s gaze was sinister and terrifying. He sped past in a hurry, his expression anxious, as if searching for something.

He walked quickly and failed to notice the snow-covered Qi Yang.

The barrier didn’t retract. Qi Yang sat down on the ground and leaned against the barrier to sleep for a while. There was no light around, pitch black. After a short doze, Qi Yang opened his eyes, then began to walk forward, diagonally upward. As he walked, the barrier slowly expanded. This ability exceeded Qi Yang’s expectations. He had a vague premonition that the greater the danger he faced, the stronger his own abilities seemed to become.

Maybe the little one in his belly sensed some danger?

“Don’t worry, Dad won’t get rid of you.” Now Qi Yang had made up his mind: he would keep this child.

He had the ability to heal; the child’s birth had originally been something Qi Yang disliked, but since things were like this, everything he now possessed came from this child. The other party had done so much for him, and he ought to give the child a small gift.

That gift was to keep the child.

Qi Yang climbed out from under the snow, onto the surface. A sudden light stabbed at him and he squinted; he withdrew his barrier. But abruptly, Qi Yang sensed a threat of death coming from behind him.

Qi Yang spun his head sharply. A pale, rigid hand reached out to strangle him, but the hand suddenly stopped—not because the attacker chose to stop, but because it inadvertently struck an invisible wall.

The snow ghost looked clearly astonished. After the initial shock, as if realizing something, it rasped, “So you have this ability after all.”

“But you’re clearly human, not a ghost. Why? Why can you stop me? Did he give you this power?” The snow ghost couldn’t guess the truest reason.

Qi Yang said nothing, only watching the snow ghost with calm eyes.

“I failed, I failed. I thought that trapping him would let me secretly escape this space. It seems I was too foolish—his power is too great, so great that we, these ghosts and monsters, aren’t even the same kind of being as him.”

“Did he give you power? Wonderful. In that case, I’ll kill you and absorb your power—then I’ll be stronger too.”

“Don’t be afraid, I’ll be quick. I’ll make your death easy—trust me.”

The snow ghost raised its other hand and touched the invisible barrier before it. Madness suddenly filled its eyes; the eyeballs were suffused with a bloody crimson.

“Open for me! Ah!” The snow ghost grabbed the barrier with both hands, using all its strength to tear it apart.

The barrier shuddered. Qi Yang stepped back, his face showing astonishment and a trace of fear.

Bang — a faint explosion. The barrier was torn apart by the snow ghost, and all ten of his fingers split open, some revealing pale white bone.

The snow ghost reached with both hands to strangle Qi Yang. Qi Yang fought back. The snow ghost’s face was hideous, its sharp fangs bared. When it clenched its fist and struck for Qi Yang’s abdomen, a strange suction suddenly appeared, pulling at the ghost’s fist. The punch wasn’t driven forward; it was drawn away.

["post-3340","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
