Although there was someone who very much wanted to slip into Qi Yang’s room and sleep beside him, when Qi Yang was escorted back to his room, he went inside, turned, and gave the other person a faint smile. After that, Nan Sheng just stood outside the door and did not move.

Qi Yang’s room was equipped with its own bathroom like the others, so there was no need to go out. After washing up he went to bed. On such a snowy night, huge snowflakes drifted outside; the world beyond the walls was a frozen expanse, while the room was warm and cozy—perfect for sleeping.

Qi Yang indeed fell asleep not long after lying down. As for what happened in the depths of his slumber—the sudden appearance of a ghostly figure in the pitch-black room—that was something Qi Yang did not know.

The shadow moved to the bedside; even in the dark he could still see everything clearly. Qi Yang’s sleeping face was gentle.

Without getting too close, Nan Sheng simply watched silently. He watched for a long time; after who knew how long, Qi Yang turned over. Nan Sheng’s eyes overflowed with the utmost tenderness. With his gaze he traced the contours of Qi Yang’s face inch by inch. This person increasingly captivated him, making it impossible for him to let go.

The next day Qi Yang woke up; his biological clock was intact, but upon waking something felt strange. The sky outside the window was dark and heavy, the whole world unnaturally gray, as if morning would never come.

Qi Yang stepped outside and happened to run into Du Yong, who was also coming out into the corridor. Instinctively he looked toward the stairwell; there was no one coming down.

“Qi-ge, don’t you think it’s weird? Why is the sky so heavy today, like it’s about to be night already?” Du Yong walked over to Qi Yang and frowned.

Qi Yang did find it strange, but thinking about it, this was the world of ghosts and monsters—what’s weird in the real world here actually felt pretty normal.

“This isn’t the real world,” Qi Yang said.

Du Yong nodded, still uneasy. “I know, but it wasn’t like this a few days ago.”

“Oh, right, Qige, did you put that ball on you?”

Du Yong remembered that matter.

Qi Yang took out the number 15 ball from his pocket. At dinner last night, they had all found a numbered ball in their respective meatball soups.

“I always feel like I need to keep this on me at all times.” Du Yong had been through the game a few times and seemed to have developed an almost instinctive response to its rules.

Qi Yang smiled, noncommittal; whether or not he pocketed the little ball, there was no way he could be in any real danger. On the contrary, it was the ghosts hiding in the shadows who were afraid of him.

The two of them went downstairs. Yuan Yuan shared a room with a girl, and the

irregular ties between the two people had formed quickly, so she had already gone downstairs early. Still, when she saw Qi Yang and the others come down, Yuan Yuan lifted her eyes to look over. Du Yong saw her sitting on the sofa and went up to ask if she had eaten.

“Not yet.” He hadn’t said he was waiting for you, but his expression had already revealed as much.

There were footsteps behind Qi Yang; strangely, he recognized the person just from the sound. He didn’t turn around. The other person’s gaze fixed on him as they walked up behind Qi Yang.

“How did you sleep last night?” Nan Sheng asked with concern in his eyes.

Qi Yang’s voice was as pale as his expression: “Fine.”

“This kind of weather is perfect for sleeping.” Suitable for resting, suitable for the pregnant husband to keep the fetus safe, Nan Sheng added the latter two phrases in his mind.

“It really is.” The two of them discussed the weather with perfectly natural expressions.

Du Yong thought a calm person like Qi Yang was rare, and he hadn’t expected another one to appear now. Standing beside Qi Yang was a man; Du Yong looked into his eyes and, perhaps it was his imagination, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something about the man was off.

But when it came to the specifics, Du Yong couldn’t put it into words. Judging by how Qi Yang and the man interacted, Qi Yang seemed indifferent, yet the man’s stare at Qi Yang was profoundly dark.

Du Yong thought maybe he should warn Qi Yang at some point to watch this man—after all, you can know a person’s face but not their heart.

A few people went to eat together; someone had gotten up early and had already eaten.

After eating, they left the dining room and went to other parts of the villa. The villa was quite large, with every kind of entertainment facility you could imagine. That day, like any other, everyone ate on schedule, and after the meal they went off to do whatever they wanted.

Several days of uninterrupted calm had noticeably relaxed some people’s vigilance.

Even though the little numbered sphere had suddenly appeared last night, not many people gave it much thought.

Some carried theirs with them, others simply left it in their rooms.

Qi Yang pulled out a chair and sat down to eat. There were staff at the villa who prepared the meals; they were being treated like distinguished guests. As for the owner of the house, there was no sign of them so far—whether they truly weren’t around or simply hadn’t shown up yet made a difference.

A few people were eating; during the meal they chatted a bit, and Du Yong asked Qi Yang when he thought the game would start. Qi Yang replied at the time, “Maybe today.”

For Qi Yang, any day was the same; whichever day it began, it posed no threat to him.

Du Yong’s expression shifted slightly. He reached into his pocket and felt his numbered ball; since last night he’d been vaguely uneasy.

If it really starts today—

I wonder what it will be like. Hopefully it won’t be too terrifying.

After breakfast, Du Yong suggested to Qi Yang that they go to the gym to play some basketball. Before Qi Yang could decline, Nan Sheng stepped forward to stop them.

Du Yong and Qi Yang both looked at Nan Sheng. Du Yong wore a puzzled expression, his eyes saying, “I’m asking my brother Qi, why did you run out to refuse—who are you to him?” Qi Yang’s mouth curved slightly instead; think about it: this was just a simple invitation to exercise, but Nan Sheng came out to decline, and it looked as if something bad would happen if he went to play basketball—clearly that meant something.

And those questions, Qi Yang knew that both he and Nan Sheng were well aware of them.

“I’ll skip basketball—my stomach hasn’t been feeling well lately, and I don’t want to do anything too strenuous. Is there any table tennis?” Compared to the running required for basketball, table tennis was clearly much better; the amount of exertion is hardly ever that great.

“Yes, of course—everything. There’s badminton, a swimming pool, a gym; you name it, this place has it all.” Du Yong had toured the villa inside and out the day he arrived.

“Then let’s play table tennis,” Qi Yang said.

Yuan Yuan and the others followed along. Although they weren’t very good at table tennis, badminton was no problem. Qi Yang and the others played table tennis, while the two girls played badminton.

Qi Yang was pretty good at ball games; when he played with Du Yong, most of the time he won. Although it was just for fun, they added a little wager: the loser would do ten push-ups for every missed ball afterward.

But even with that punishment system, Du Yong once tried to rise up, but in the end he still failed to succeed.

After one round, he had lost ten points to Qi Yang. That meant he had to do a hundred push-ups. Du Yong put on a miserable face and played the pity card in front of Qi Yang, begging for a discount—maybe half off or sixty percent off.

Qi Yang remained indifferent and unyielding. Du Yong let out a wail but in the end accepted his loss. He lay on the ground and painfully began doing push-ups.

Du Yong worked on this side while Yuan Yuan and the others came over to watch, helping count as they went. When they reached into the twenties, a scream suddenly came from another direction.

A few people immediately turned their heads to look toward the outside of the arena; the sound came from out there, and it wasn’t just one cry—more screams followed in succession.

Du Yong leaped up violently. For a moment an odd thought crossed his mind: luckily something happened, so he wouldn’t have to keep doing push-ups. But his heart clenched sharply right after—he remembered where he was, this terrifying world where people could die at any moment.

“This… could something have happened?” Du Yong looked toward the door but didn’t dare step outside.

“Go out and see for yourself.” With that, Qi Yang started to walk outside, but Nan Sheng grabbed his arm.

“Stay here. Du Yong and I will go out.” After saying that, Nan Sheng fixed his gaze on Du Yong.

The latter froze for a moment, about to refuse, then noticed Yuan Yuan and the other girls. He knew Qi Yang’s health was poor and his constitution weak; that left only him and Nan Sheng who could go. If he didn’t step outside now, who would?

Du Yong swallowed his unease and followed Nan Sheng outside.

Qi Yang stayed behind with Yuan Yuan and the others.

Qi Yang walked to the window. He couldn’t tell when the sky outside had faded from gray to deep dark. It should have been daytime, yet a heavy night hung in the sky, the whole night sky pressed low, as if it might fall at any moment.

Screams sounded from time to time, and it seemed as if they were getting closer, like someone was running this way.

Yuan Yuan and the others all hid to one side, eyes terrified as they looked toward the entrance. Yuan Yuan saw Qi Yang standing by the window; outside the university snow swirled, as if the snow might blow into the room, and that spot was too exposed. If there was any danger outside, Qi Yang would be the first to take it.

“Qi Ge, don’t stand there, it’s dangerous!” Yuan Yuan shouted.

As Yuan Yuan cried out, Qi Yang’s pupils narrowed slightly. He stared at a point outside the window where a line of people stood. In the heavy snow their faces were hard to make out, but each of them looked frosted over, their faces crusted with ice.

What surprised Qi Yang even more, and made him narrow his eyes slightly, was that everyone was holding something in their hands—more precisely, a handful of snowballs.

The person standing in the very center raised his arm; he saw Qi Yang, and their gazes met for a few seconds. Then that person suddenly swung his arm, and the snowball in his palm was thrown.

The snowball flew toward Qi Yang as if meant to hit him, but Qi Yang neither dodged nor avoided it; let alone showing fear, he didn’t even blink.

The snowball seemed to have been thrown off course; it struck the glass bed beside Qi Yang, shattering the window outright with a loud bang, which gave Yuan Yuan and the others a huge fright.

A hole had been cracked into the glass window, and cold wind blew in from outside; the gusts howled, and Qi Yang felt a chill.

Yuan Yuan’s heart was filled with fear, but she couldn’t afford to be scared now; she dashed forward, grabbed Qi Yang’s hand, and pulled him into the corner by the wall.

Just after Qi Yang left, the very window he had just stood by was struck by snowballs from outside, a hole punched through the glass. Judging by the aim, if the thrower had wanted to, they could have hit Qi Yang—but the snow-covered person outside didn’t.

Yuan Yuan’s heart pounded wildly. The two snowballs rolled onto the floor; they didn’t look large, but when they landed they left shallow craters in the floor.

If those had hit someone, they wouldn’t die but they’d be severely injured.

["post-3326","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
