Chapter 21 Wen Tang vented to him at length, every word coming from the heart. When she was younger, she had stumbled into the entertainment industry, taking on roles one after another. Everyone said she was a promising actress. Lacking love as a child, Wen Tang had gained attention through acting, and through performing, she had experienced the sorrows of different lives. Back then, she didn’t have to attend banquets—Liu Meifen handled all the social obligations—she just acted purely, which was much simpler and happier than now. Regarding banquets, it seemed the other person understood her feelings. After Wen Tang sent several messages, she received his response. 【Y: I also dislike attending banquets, but I have no choice.】 Upon seeing this message, Wen Tang sensitively detected that the other person’s mood wasn’t very good. She couldn’t help but think that Gong Yue, an eighteenth-tier artist, was in a much more difficult position than her. In the industry now, small artists are treated extremely harshly—from every angle, from companies to variety shows to film crews, they’re at the very bottom. Why had she attended that banquet today? Wasn’t it because of Gong Yue being replaced in the film crew? Seeing his state and comparing it to her own position at the peak of the industry, Wen Tang actually felt sympathetic toward him. Although through her intervention the crew had decided to keep him, perhaps they hadn’t notified him yet, which was why his mood was low? Her younger brother was in a bad mood, so Wen Tang had to turn around and comfort him. 【One Candy: It’s okay. Once you become famous, you’ll have a say. These banquets and social obligations will be much fewer than now.】【One Candy: Senior, keep working hard! I believe with your talent, you’ll definitely make it!】 Wen Tang enthusiastically cheered him on. But regarding her encouragement, after a while, he only gave a bland reply of one character. 【Y: Mm.】 Sigh, her younger brother was like this sometimes. He really didn’t talk much. But there was nothing she could do—who told her she liked him anyway? Wen Tang chatted with him a bit longer. After drinking that evening, she was exhausted and fell asleep in less than half an hour. The next day was the weekend. In the afternoon, she had a screen test with Director Xu that had been scheduled in advance. When she left in the morning and entered the elevator, Yang Yang and Ke Xin hesitated: “Tang Tang, when we came just now, we saw… that person again at the entrance.” They hadn’t come back with Wen Tang last night and had thought Wen Haifeng hadn’t come yesterday. But even so, standing guard at the entrance of Wen Tang’s residential complex every few days was unbearable. One had to know how many eyes were watching Wen Tang now. Not to mention rival companies, just entertainment reporters alone were impossible to guard against. If anything got leaked, it would be very troublesome. “Shouldn’t we go talk to him? At least find out what he wants and send him away?” Yang Yang and Ke Xin had been thinking about this since early morning. They knew Wen Tang deeply despised Wen Haifeng, but if he was going to stand guard at the entrance every day, they couldn’t just ignore it, right? But they had held back for a long time, not daring to speak. Now that they were already in the elevator, they had to say something. Finally, they gathered their courage. After speaking, both of them carefully observed Wen Tang’s expression. Wen Tang’s face was cold, and she didn’t say a word from beginning to end. Ke Xin nudged Yang Yang with her elbow. Yang Yang suddenly became alert and quickly said: “Don’t worry, Tang Tang. Just leave him to me. I’ll handle it!” Ke Xin stood beside her, nodding repeatedly. This was the solution they had secretly discussed while waiting for Wen Tang to leave. Who knew that their supposedly perfect proposal, the moment it was spoken, only drew a scoff from Wen Tang. Wen Tang glanced at Yang Yang’s small frame, her gaze cold and full of doubt: “You?” She shook her head, her eyes fixed on the red numbers jumping on the elevator display. “Forget it.” “The best way to deal with someone like Wen Haifeng is to ignore him.” Wen Tang understood him too well. He was a scoundrel. Give him an inch and he’d take a mile, with no bottom line. Once entangled with him, there was no way to shake him off. At that moment, Wen Haifeng, growing impatient from waiting, tried to force his way in. Like every other time, he was stopped. “Call Wen Tang and tell her to come down and see me!” Wen Haifeng shouted at them in frustration. “I’m sorry, sir. Without Miss Wen’s approval, you cannot enter,” the tall, muscular security guard stood at the entrance, his expression quite stern, speaking in an official manner. “I’m her father!” Wen Haifeng said indignantly. However, the security guard completely ignored him! No matter how much he shouted, they treated him as just someone causing trouble, completely disbelieving him. Everyone knew Wen Tang’s status. If they let in anyone who claimed to be Wen Tang’s father, given her current fame, they’d have to let in countless fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters every day. Everyone claimed to be her relatives, but where was the proof? Wen Haifeng could provide no proof. He and Wen Tang didn’t even have a single photo together, and they had never been on the same household register. Wen Haifeng had been blocked by Wen Tang repeatedly. After being blocked, he couldn’t contact her. After he had asked Liu Meifen for money to buy a house last time, a few days later, Wen Haifeng sought her out again. Unexpectedly, this time she washed her hands of him, only giving him Wen Tang’s current address and telling him to go find Wen Tang directly if he wanted anything. He came, was blocked at the entrance, and so he came every day. He had plenty of time; if he waited a few more days, she would eventually see him. Over the years, as Wen Tang became a big star and earned more and more money, Wen Haifeng’s material life had improved dramatically. He had originally been just an insurance company salesman, bowing and scraping to people, working in the sun and rain, with a meager monthly salary and a desolate life. His second wife complained constantly every day.
