No one stopped to wonder why the zombies from the prison had arrived so quickly. Feng Leijie was the first to launch an attack, just as goose-down snowflakes began drifting down from the sky.
Zombies hibernate during winter; in freezing temperatures, their movements are inevitably impaired, even for high-level zombies.
Sure enough, the speed of those two high-level zombies was immediately affected.
“Separate them!” Feng Leijie’s strength was indeed formidable. The moment the words left his lips, he had already closed in on the zombies. A thick ice wall rose up, splitting the two creatures apart. Dodging the tornado-like blades unleashed by the level-three zombie, he charged straight at the level-four zombie.
Separating the two zombies’ cooperation makes it much easier to deal with them one-on-one.
Luo Yesheng understood Feng Leijie’s intent; the remaining members of Feilong were holding off the constantly approaching zombie horde, while Feng Leijie used a freezing skill to encase the Level 3 zombie and flung it toward Tie Zhi and the others.
“Lure it over there!” Feng Leijie shouted at Luo Yesheng. While he attacked, the Level 4 zombie wasn’t idle either; a gun assembled from metal, seemingly possessing infinite ammunition, sprayed dense fire relentlessly at both Feng Leijie and Luo Yesheng.
Anyone with a brain knows they can’t afford to get hit.
What made matters even worse was that when Luo Yesheng attempted to melt the metal bullets with his fire ability, he discovered that instead of melting under the intense heat, the bullets exploded outright!
What the hell were those bullets? They were clearly one bomb after another.
However, Luo Yesheng and Feng Leijie were both powerful B-rank high-stage experts. Though initially caught off guard, they quickly found an opening to counterattack. A sharp ice spear pierced through the shoulder of the Level 4 zombie, spraying out copious amounts of dark greenish-black blood.
Seizing this opportunity, Luo Yesheng unleashed a roaring fire dragon that struck the Level 4 zombie from a cunning angle. The creature was blasted backward, crashing heavily onto the ground with such force that the earth cracked open and debris flew in all directions.
In a daze, Luo Yesheng heard a faint, panicked voice that vanished almost instantly, so quickly it felt like his own hallucination.
Could there be other survivors here?
There was no time for him to ponder further; coordinating with Feng Leijie, he lured the Level 4 zombie onto another, more open street.
Now, the street is packed with zombies. The remaining members of Feilong are struggling to attack the Level 3 zombie while fending off waves of ordinary zombies rushing at them, deploying a dazzling array of diverse ability techniques.
The terrain is too narrow, and there are simply too many zombies; for them, this situation does more harm than good. Besides, before setting out, they had already agreed on their division of labor: the two of them were specifically targeting the Level 4 zombie.
However, contrary to their expectations—the Level 4 zombie refused to take the bait!
Zombies crave blood. If a Level 4 zombie had proactively attacked them, it clearly regarded them as food. So why wouldn’t it continue pursuing its prey if that food was trying to escape?
This does not align with the basic needs of zombies.
Or has this level-four zombie already realized they are trying to lure it away, which is why it refuses to fall into the trap?

For some reason, Luo Yesheng didn’t respond immediately to Feng Leijie. He simply exhaled heavily, lifting his gaze to stare at the level-four zombie.
Judging by its build, it must have been an elderly person in life, and a powerful metal-element ability user at that; otherwise, it wouldn’t be this strong after being infected and turned into a zombie.
The more powerful an ability user is before being infected and turning into a zombie, the easier it is for them to evolve into a high-level zombie while retaining their original abilities. Therefore, high-level zombies are no less formidable than high-level ability users.
Sometimes, among those of equal rank, zombies prove even more difficult to deal with than ability users.
This was the strongest zombie Luo Yesheng had ever encountered.
On the other side, Feng Leijie was clearly unleashing his ultimate move. Suddenly, just as he was about to take a step forward, his foot slipped strangely beneath him; he lost control of his body and crashed face-first onto the ground with a tremendous thud that drew Luo Yesheng’s attention.
The fall was exceptionally hard; even someone as formidable as Feng Leijie was momentarily stunned. When he looked up, two streaks of blood trickled down from his nostrils. Given the low temperature, they instantly froze into icicles hanging beneath his nose, unavoidably lending his appearance a touch of absurdity.
This sudden turn of events left Luo Yesheng stunned; his movements slowed as he dodged the metal bullets. Closing in on Feng Leijie within a few steps, he frowned and asked, “Captain Feng, what’s going on…?”
Feng Leijie’s expression turned utterly grim. Ignoring the level-four zombie lurking menacingly in the distance, he sprang to his feet. His small eyes gleamed with sinister light as he scanned his surroundings. With each of his movements, ice spikes continuously erupted from the ground.
“Someone ambushed me,” he gritted out, words that sent shivers down Luo Yesheng’s spine.
Out of nowhere, one of his legs had become uncontrollable, causing him to crash directly to the ground—as if an invisible person stood beside him and had kicked him with full force, holding nothing back.
Yet, apart from Luo Yesheng, there was no one else around him.
Noticing Feng Leijie’s gaze directed at him, Luo Yesheng’s expression turned cold: “Captain Feng, if I intended to ambush you, I wouldn’t choose a moment like this.”
They all knew the peril posed by a level-four zombie; only someone willing to sacrifice their life would attempt a killing strike at such a moment.
Feng Leijie’s eyes flickered, uncertain whether he believed Luo Yesheng’s words.
As the two spoke, the level-four zombie lunged forward. Distracted, Luo Yesheng found himself too late to counterattack and could only dodge in a clumsy retreat.
Yet just as he turned sideways, a strange force suddenly struck the back of his knee. Caught completely off guard, he dropped straight down onto his knees.
As his knees hit the ground, a deadly metallic shard from the Level 4 zombie sliced across his throat. Luo Yesheng’s pupils contracted to pinpoints. In that critical moment between life and death, he roared loudly, transforming his right hand into a ball of fire to meet the glinting, cold metal shard head-on.
With a thunderous boom, the Level 4 zombie was sent flying backward. Luo Yesheng fared no better; the metallic shard exploded right before his eyes. Had he not activated his special ability at the very last second, standing at the epicenter of the blast, his head would now be severed from his neck.
Even so, Luo Yesheng staggered backward, soaked through, a gaping hole torn in his chest from which blood gushed forth.
“You…” Feng Leijie stared at Luo Yesheng, now a figure drenched in blood, his face frozen in sheer astonishment, the flesh on his cheeks rigid with shock.
Luo Yesheng’s face was deathly pale; he took a ragged breath, his eyes scanning the surroundings like a hawk’s, and spoke word by word: “I was ambushed too.”
“It wasn’t me!” Feng Leijie blurted out instinctively, his complexion turning utterly grim. Both of them had been ambushed, yet neither knew where the attacker was; they had fallen into a trap without even realizing it.
Luo Yesheng swung his arm back to kill a lone ordinary zombie that had approached; the mere motion aggravated his wounds, sending sharp pains through his body that made him tremble uncontrollably and breathe heavily.
He knew it wasn’t Feng Leijie; if someone intended to make a move against him, they wouldn’t choose this moment.
Then who was it?
Who could accurately ambush both him and Feng Leijie amidst this chaotic battle? And why would they choose to strike at this very moment?
If they wanted to snatch the crystal cores, shouldn’t they have waited until the others were on the verge of killing the level-four zombie? Anyone sneaking around in the shadows to launch a surprise attack definitely isn’t very powerful.
What confused him even more was how the opponent had managed to sneak up on them silently and succeed.
